Flosstube

I just realized that I haven't made a post sharing a favorite flosstuber in awhile, so today is the day.

I met Judy on a facebook group and we became quick email buddies and talk about our stitching and life. She is one of the sweetest ladies I think I have ever known and I definitely hope I will have the chance to meet her in person one day. Her stitching is gorgeous and she is a member of the BAP club like me! Be sure and check out her channel and subscribe.

Weekly Stitching

I started London this past week and it is on another post but I am putting here so you can see all of the weekly stitching.

I started another project on Saturday, October 29. It is a SAL that I am participating in on the facebook group called Patriotic Stitches. I started it and got quite a bit done, only to realize that I was two rows off. So I had to frog quite a bit.

I had this much done and had to frog out the red star on the left side and the bottom three rows of text.

I decided to go straight across in hopes of keeping myself on track and not having to fix it again.

This is the finished piece.

Haul

I am so excited to show some haul today.

Haul

I haven't posted haul in a couple of weeks as I have been waiting on some things to come in. However, I made some purchases today on Etsy and thought I would go ahead and share them. I really like this store and it is where I purchased London last week. I went today to purchase Manhattan and there is a great sale going on. Patterns were 5.92 or you could buy 3 and get 1 free for 17.76. So, I did the buy 3 get 1 free plus 2! They are all BAP's and who knows if I will ever complete them but it was just one of those I must have these today situations.

The store is called Born to Cross.

I hope you enjoy and if you would like to do a SAL with me on one of these, let me know!

Weekly Stitching

Good Monday Morning! I hope everyone had a great weekend.

I started this project last Wednesday and was a quick, fun stitch. I finished the stitching last night and will still need to do the final finishing of making it into an ornament. But I loved stitching on it and can't wait to hang on my tree this year.

Sampler Ornament by The Posy Collection

I went to Etsy on Friday to the Born To Cross shop as I was planning on purchasing a pdf pattern of Manhattan. However, as I looked around at all the cross stitch patterns the seller had, I saw one that was London. Now, I have to tell you all that I am crazy about England, especially London. So, I had to purchase London and put Manhattan back on the wish list for next time. I am attracted to large projects and this one is, well, quite large and I have no clue when I will ever get it finished. But I started it yesterday.

This is my start.

This is what it will look like when finished.

I hope you all have a great stitchy week and I would love to hear about what you are working on.

New Start

My friend Denita gave me this kit in my goodie bag last weekend and I couldn't wait to start it, so I did last night. It is a really quick and fun stitch and I am amazed at how much I was able to get done in a few hours.

It is called Sampler Ornament and is by The Posy Collection. It is being stitched on 18 count aida, that came with the kit. I am hoping to get the stitching all finished tonight.

Show Me Your Porch!

I love to see front porches this time of year as everyone starts to decorate for the fall and upcoming holidays. So-please send me a picture of yours via email and I will post on the blog for every one to see. I am also thinking that everyone that sends a pic should be entered in a giveaway for some type of stitch stash. I will take submissions until November 15-so start sending!

Pampered Chef and Charity

Do you have an infusion water bottle? I don't and I have seen them advertised in various places and think it would be a great way for me to be able to get in all the water I need to drink each day. So, I was quite excited when I received this email about the one that is offered by Pampered Chef. Not only is it a great product but Pampered Chef is donating $1 from each one sold during the month of October, to the American Cancer Society. There are still 11 days left in the month, so be sure and order yours before this deal is over.

While you are there, take a look around at some of the other great products. I had a look around the site and saw this Microwave Popcorn maker. I think I could eat popcorn every day and the microwave bags are good but I miss that old fashioned taste of making it on the stove. So I am going to have to purchase this with my infusion bottle.

Be sure and tell Linda that I sent you to her site.

Goose Creek Candles

I love candles and melts and sharing a great deal with you all. Goose Creek Candles was having a half price sale yesterday and there were so many people trying to place orders that the servers went down. So, today they are extending the half price sale! And if you spend $20, you get a $24 candle FREE! Just enter the code new16 at checkout.
I ordered a jar candle and 5 packages of melts and I can't wait to get them. Fall is the time I really start using candles and all things that make the house smell extra good and to give that cozy, warm feeling.

Lindsey Stirling

As you can all see, I had quite a weekend already and then Saturday night came along. My birthday is in a couple of weeks so my husband got tickets to this concert for me. I have listened to her music for a good while but had not yet had a chance to see her live and it was amazing. If you have a chance to go see her, run to get tickets.

A Canadian singer named Shawn Hook opened for her. I had not heard of him before but he was great and I am now a fan.

I took a short video of Lindsey performing but it is too large to email from my phone and post here. I have posted a video here that is one of my favorites.

My Old Kentucky Dinner Train

I wanted to make this event its own post since there was quite a bit to tell about it. On Friday night my friend and I went to the My Old Kentucky Dinner Train. The train ride took us over a wooden trestle that still survives from the Civil War and we passed a house that Jesse James used as a hideout.

History

The Bardstown railroad branch was originally constructed by The Bardstown and Louisville Railroad in 1860. Subsequently, the Louisville and Nashville Railroad purchased the line at a foreclosure sale in 1864.

R. J. Corman Railroad Company purchased the twenty-mile branch from CSX Transportation in 1987 and developed the Dinner Train which had its inaugural run in 1988. In addition to the Dinner Train, the railroad provides freight service to local industries.

Depot History

The depot was constructed in 1860 and was used as a freight and passenger depot until 1953, when passenger service was discontinued on this portion of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. The depot is constructed of native limestone and is the last remaining "dry-laid" limestone depot in the state of Kentucky. Because of its historical significance, the depot is listed on the "National Register of Historic Places." The original freight portion of the depot has been preserved intact as much as possible, while the passenger portion was demolished in 1953. A new waiting room addition was constructed in 1992.

Dining Car History

The three cars of the dinner train are all steel skirted cars built by the Budd Company in the late 1940's after World War II. They have been refurbished extensively by R. J. Corman Railroad Company, far exceeding the original interior design. The RJC-007 was built for the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1941 as a fifty-four seat day coach. The RJC-021, built in 1948, was used on the El Capitan train by the Santa Fe Railroad and has been outfitted with the most up-to-date equipment to serve as our kitchen car. The RJC-777 was refurbished and added to the dinner train in May of 1992.

Upon arriving and checking in to get your ticket, their was a main room and a bar area with low lighting and music from the 30's and 40's playing. The atmosphere was fantastic and it was a place to sit and relax and one that you just don't find anymore in a nice restaurant.

The food was incredible. We had a Pumpkin Crepe that contained pumpkin, sage, cream cheese and smoked bacon and was drizzled with a honey chipotle.

We had ordered Bruschetta as an appetizer to share but they changed to their fall menu after our tickets were purchased so we changed to the Roasted Butternut Squash Hummus and it was served with grilled naan and crostini.

There was a choice of a Classic Caesar or a Golden Spike salad and we both chose the Golden Spike. It was tender spring greens, crunchy romaine, grape tomoatoes, mandarin orages, dried cranberries, and their signature Golden Spike dresing. The dressing was their own twist on honey mustard dressing.

I had the Prime rib with baked potato and steamed vegetables and I have never seen a piece of prime rib as large and thick as the cut of this one.

My friend Denita had the Pan Seared Chicken seasoned with fig, orange and mint and served with herb mashed potatoes and she said it was great.

And then last but not least, was the dessert. I chose the Apple Dumpling that was smothered in homemade cinnamon sauce.

Denita chose the chocolate mousse.

We had unlimited tea, soft drinks, water and coffee. The coffee was perhaps the best coffee I have ever tasted.
If there are only two people in your party, you will be seated with another couple. We had a lovely couple from Ohio that had heard about the dinner train and just came to Bardstown for the weekend to take the train ride and see the town's sites for the weekend. I would definitely recommend this for a great couple's special occassion or just a nice night out. Be sure and follow the link at the top of the post for more details.

Weekend Fun

I have lots to tell you and show you from my weekend. I will forewarn you that this will be a long post and quite heavy with pictures but you know you want to see it all!

I took off work on Thursday and Friday and my fantastic friend Denita came to visit. On Thursday we went to Glendale, this cute little town that isn't far from me, for food and shopping. There are several antique/vintage stores and we looked through a few of them while we waited to be seated for lunch. We had lunch at the Whistle Stop and were so stuffed afterwards that we had trouble making our way back to the car.

After lunch, we had hours of fun stitching and then of course, we ate again later.

On Friday, we had tickets to go see Jenny Doan of the Missouri Star Quilt Company. There was a quilt shop hop all set up at the Paroquet Conference Center in Shepherdsville and she came to speak. They had four different times scheduled to see her and they all sold out! She told about how the store was started and the roles that all the members of her family play in the business. Then, along with help from her husband, Jenny displayed a variety of quilt blocks and how to change them around to make different patterns. She had a quilt to show for each pattern as well. She was very funny and it was well worth taking the time to go.

I met my friend Denita at a stitch retreat in Nashville a year ago in August and in addition to retreats, we decided to get together a few extra times a year and each time we eat, stitch, shop, and exchange a goodie bag with each other. I can't wait for you to see all of the goodies I received this weekend.

It was all arranged in this cute basket.
